Rearrange your Windows 8 Start screen

Customise the layout of your Windows 8 Start screen by moving and resizing app tiles, and disabling Live tiles.

Windows 8 offers plenty of scope when it comes to rearranging your Start screen apps. Don’t like the order in which your apps appear? You can rearrange them by moving tiles wherever you want. Find the constantly changing nature of a Live tile too distracting? Simply turn this effect off so it displays a plain background with no animations instead. You can also choose whether an app tile appears as a small square or a larger rectangle.

Move tiles on your Start screen

Step 1  Click, hold and drag the tile to the new location.
