When creating a user account on a Windows 8 computer, you can choose between two types of accounts: a local account for use on just that PC or a Microsoft account – previously known as a Microsoft Live ID – which works on all Windows 8 computers.
With a Microsoft account, you sign into the computer using an email address and password. An existing email address can be used or you can create a new one for free.
If you change your mind about the type of account you’ve chosen, you can easily switch between a Microsoft account and a local account at any time.
Step 1 Move your mouse cursor to the top right of the screen and from the Charms menu, click Settings
Step 2 Click Change PC settings at the bottom right of the screen
Step 3 Click Users in the left-hand pane, and then click Add a user
Step 4 Now you can enter the account account information for this person to sign in to Windows. Enter either the person’s existing Microsoft account ID, their email address or, if they don’t have an email address, click Sign up for a new email address
Step 5 Follow the instructions to create and then enter the new email address
Step 6 The account will be created and you’ll see a confirmation screen
Step 7 If the new account belongs to a child and you want to set Family Safety options, tick the checkbox next to Is this a child’s account? and then click Finish
