Use Excel’s status bar to make calculations

There’s a quick and easy way to see the results of the most commonly used calculations in Excel: Average, Count and Sum. Select two or more cells containing numerical values, then look at the status bar at the foot of the Excel window. Here you’ll see the average of the numbers in the selected cells, the count of the cells and the sum of the numbers in the cells.

This works with non-adjacent cells too. Simply hold down the Ctrl key and click on each cell you wish to select. The average, count and sum will update each time you select a cell.

You can customise which statistics and calculations are shown in the status bar. Right-click the status bar and choose any or all of Min, Max, Numerical Count, Count, Sum, and Average.
