Desktop icons are shortcuts, allowing you quick access to programs, files, pictures, and libraries. It’s easy to add or delete desktop icons.
Step 1 Right-click the program, folder, library or item that you want to create a shortcut for on your computer.
Step 2 In the pop-up menu that appears click Send to, then click Desktop (create shortcut). The shortcut will appear on your desktop.
To delete a desktop icon, simply right-click the icon, then click Delete in the pop-up menu. Click Yes. Deleting the desktop icon doesn’t delete the actual program or item merely the shortcut.
